90 Day Fiancé Wiki

Débuting in season 6 of Before the 90 Days, David and Sheila met through an online sign language based group where both parties bonded over their hearing statuses: David is deaf and Sheila is hard of hearing. Sheila speaks English and Tagalog whereas David speaks American Sign Language (ASL), so most of their conversations occur by texting in English, speaking through text-to-voice English servers, and basic ASL.

Shortly before flying to the Phillippines, Sheila's hometown experienced a hurricane that destroyed parts of her family home. Sheila, her son Jhonreil, her mother, and her father made temporary repairs, such as covering the roof in cardboard and plastic. David, who provided some financial support to cover repair costs, joined the family as a surveyor appraised the price of further renovations.

Around this point in the series, Sheila's mother fell down a flight of stairs, which led to her death. David and the family supported one another through this process, but because David's visa neared its expiration date, David decided to purchase a ring to propose to Sheila despite the poor timing. Sheila accepted, the couple applied for a K-1 visa, and Sheila opened a store she named after herself David in which she sells coffee.
